The Peachtree Road Race is a family tradition. My late father, Denny, ran it in its early days, when runners were more likely to get curious stares than cheers. As kids, my siblings and I ran the Peachtree Junior, then the full 10K, making it the heart of our Fourth of July celebrations.
But in 2013, life changed. We lost Dad, and the world felt heavier. Running became my refuge, a way to process the grief that clung to me. Each stride helped me carry the weight of his absence, reconnecting me to those memories of him running Peachtree’s course. Yet, in all those miles, I never paused to consider those who couldn’t run—who didn’t have the chance to feel that same release, that same connection to something bigger.
That changed when I learned about the Kyle Pease Foundation, founded by brothers Kyle and Brent Pease. Their story of sibling love and unyielding determination struck a chord deep within me. Kyle, who lives with spastic cerebral palsy, and Brent, his brother, refused to let barriers keep them from crossing finish lines together. Their bond reminded me of my own siblings, of the way we've pushed each other through Peachtree Jr. and Turkey Trots, on the volleyball court, in the swimming pool, in our careers and everywhere in between.
The Kyle Pease Foundation isn’t just about endurance sports—it’s about inclusion, about ensuring everyone has a shot to feel the rush of the race, the pride of the finish line.
I can't imagine my life without sports. I can't imagine my siblings' lives without sports. I can't imagine my son not getting to try sports as he grows up.
This year, I’m honored to push Darden, an incredible in-chair athlete, in the Peachtree Road Race alongside my teammate, Morgan Pappas, on behalf of the Kyle Pease Foundation. Together, we’re not just running 10K—we’re pushing for a world where everyone has the opportunity to participate, to belong, to thrive. This isn’t just about endurance sports; it’s about making our communities, our world, more inclusive for all.
