DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FIRST FINISH LINE?

Maybe it was in grade school during PE.
Maybe it was that 4th of July event where you got a silver dollar for participating.
Maybe it was a local 5k.

No matter when it was......I bet you remember.

In my career as a professional race announcer, host and emcee of running events, I spend a lot of time at finish lines.

I've never had a bad day on the job.

Even if the weather is horrendous and the crowd doesn't laugh at my jokes.....It's always a great day!

I've witnessed individuals cross the finish line who are elites in their sports.
I've seen moms and dads,
Old ladies and little kids
I've seen first finishes and 700th finishes
I've seen marriage proposals and gender reveals.
Euphoria
Grief
Joy
Defeat and
Accomplishment.....I've seen it all, but the most powerful thing I witness is how a finish line can change someone!

I had a profound moment at a finish line in the small town of Townsend, Tennessee a few years back. It was late in the event and most of the participants had finished and gone home when I saw the last group moving towards me up the hill.

This group was not moving quickly, in fact, they were moving very slowly. Dressed in their red Queen City Running Club t-shirts, there were about 10 individuals, the one in the middle was a man in a wheelchair.

As the group approached the finish line arch, a walker was handed to the man in the chair. He struggled but slowly rose to his feet to take the few steps to get himself across the line.

He finished!
They finished!

This man was named Doug. I had met Doug the previous year at the same event when he wasn't able to get out of his wheelchair. Doug had been in a terrible accident that robbed his body of the ability to run with his beloved friends in the Queen City Running Club.

Though Doug's legs couldn't carry him the distance the race would demand, his team rallied around him, helping him find the finish line despite his abilities.

We all deserve the feeling of crossing a finish line and The Kyle Pease Foundation is making that possible for people of all abilities!

If you love your finish line moments, join me in helping make those moments a reality for someone who can't create them for themself. Donations large or small can help provide needed equipment, travel, assistance and teammates.

In October, I will return to my first marathon finish line in Washington, DC at the Marine Corp Marathon. This time with The Kyle Pease Foundation, that marathon finish line won't be for me. It will be for someone else......someone who couldn't be there without our help!
