The purpose of the Kyle Pease Foundation (KPF) is to create awareness and raise funds to promote success for persons with disabilities by providing assistance to meet their individual needs through sports. On Feb. 27, over 50 teams of in-chair athletes and push-assist volunteers will participate in the Publix Half-Marathon.
In 2017, Parr Burton, Eric Lowe and I didn't know each other at all, but were paired together for the Publix Half-Marathon. With Eric and I as pushers and Parr as an in-chair athlete, we had an incredible day — I don't know if I've ever smiled as much during a race as that time. Since then, our trio has teamed up for other races and struck up a great friendship along the way. By my count, Parr and I have now completed four half-marathons together, four road races, a 15K and two sprint triathlons.
Over the last four years, I've done a couple 70.3 Half-Ironman triathlons, numerous sprint triathlons, eight half-marathons and two marathons. However, the most amount of joy and satisfaction I get from a race is when Parr and I compete together. That feeling of running for something greater than yourself is incomparable — it's something you just don't get competing on your own. Running is usually considered an individual sport, but it's way more fun and fulfilling when you do it as part of a team.
Please consider a donation so that we can provide more opportunities and unforgettable experiences for athletes with disabilities. Your donation will go toward scholarship opportunities, adaptive sports equipment as well as participation in educational campaigns to create awareness about Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities.
